On April 26, 2014, 1,000 volunteers repaired and renovated 25 homes on Pendleton Avenue and Pickett Place, in Springfield's Old Hill Neighborhood.

Like last year's GreenNFit Cluster Rebuild on Tyler Street, our 22nd Annual National Rebuilding Day event provides healthy and safe homes for veterans, elderly residents, families, and people with disabilities.

It's all part of Rebuilding Together's GreenNFit 10 in 10 Initiative - our ambitious plan to revitalize Old Hill by renovating contiguous street blocks, from Tyler St. to Hickory St., through 2023. (Read more about 10 in 10.)

On April 26, Rebuilding Together partnered with 80 generous sponsors and donors to help homeowner families in need on Pendleton Avenue and Pickett Place, from Hancock Street to Eastern Avenue.

The April 26 GreenNFit event celebrated the 22nd Annual National Rebuilding Day, when 200 Rebuilding Together affiliates around the country brought 50,000 volunteers together to work on 3,000 affiliate-led projects in the United States.

Major renovations to homes on Pendleton and Pickett include conversion from oil heat to natural gas; new roofs; energy-efficient windows and doors; insulation and weatherization improvements; HVAC system updates; 'Age in Place' modifications; electrical and plumbing repairs; house painting and vinyl siding; installation of CO2/smoke detectors and deadbolt locks; and landscaping.

Volunteers also made improvements to the park on Pendleton Avenue. After the event, The Old Hill Neighborhood Council will also install a watering system at the Community Garden on Tyler Street, created at last year's GreenNFit rebuild.

Without the generous support of businesses, organizations, and individuals, this major community revitalization project would not be possible - Thank you!
